I've since realized that the Type R builds boost very differently than my previous '17 SI. The SI was very peaky, with boost coming in very noticeably around 3300 RPM, but the power would start to fall off around 5000 RPM, By contrast, the Type R doesn't really seem to build any boost under partial throttle below 4K RPM.
